Ms. Henny Mardiani assists in arbitral proceedings as tribunal law clerk or tribunal secretary to the Residents of The Arbitration Chambers. She is a native Bahasa Indonesia speaker and admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Henny holds an LL.M in International Business and Trade Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She was awarded a StuNed scholarship. She also completed a postgraduate course in International Trade Law in Italy, which was jointly organised by the University Institute of European Studies and ILO Training Center. She read law in the UK.

Henny has vast experience in international arbitration from different viewpoints in a broad range of commercial disputes, including joint venture and shareholder disputes, construction and infrastructure projects, shipping, energy, sale of goods and general contractual disputes.

Since joining The Arbitration Chambers, Henny has assisted in around 40 arbitral proceedings in wide variety of disputes, involving various governing laws and seats of arbitration. These arbitrations include ad hoc or institutional arbitration administered by the ICC, SIAC, LCIA, AAA, AIAC, HKIAC, and SCMA.

She started her arbitration career by doing a summer internship at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law in Vienna. She then joined the SIAC where she managed hundreds of arbitration cases from various industries and worked with arbitration lawyers and practitioners from different jurisdictions. While at SIAC, she was part of the working group for revision of rules and practice notes, she scrutinised awards, and was involved in the process of appointment of arbitrators. She also played an active role in the business development efforts of SIAC, by speaking at seminars and taking care of the Indonesian market. She helped with the translation of the SIAC Rules into Bahasa Indonesia.

She has managed disputes for a shipping company in Indonesia. She has also worked with the International Arbitration practice groups of Hogan Lovells and King & Spalding.

Appointments as Tribunal Secretary To-Date

  • Arbitration arising out of a licensing agreement in pharmaceutical industry between an Asian company and European company administered by HKIAC seated in Hong Kong, and governed by English laws; and
  • Ad hoc arbitration arising out of foreign direct investment in infrastructure sector in India. Seat in Delhi and governed by Indian laws.
